It's become a tradition for me and Jake to go away during New Year, I honestly couldn't imagine spending it in Manchester. This New Year we went to Basel in Switzerland, which was an out of this world experience.
On new years eve there is a huge celebration which takes place on the River Rhine. It's absolutely beautiful with thousands of people gathering to watch an outstanding fire work display, let off on boats on the river. There is a count down at 12:00 and the fire works begin at 12:30. What's more it's 100% free and there is also free mould wine. Get there early if you want a good view! There's lots of little bars near by to grab a drink or cuppa whilst you wait.
During our time in Basel me and Jake went on an incredible adventure. We explored Mount Pilatus; Swiss Alps. This is an experience I will never forget and can't recommend enough. All in the trip cost us £215 (for both of us) that includes the train there and back from basel to lucerne as well as the cable cart up and down the mountain. I think It's a million percent worth the money and something you should definitely do if you are staying in Basel.
